Well Pleased

Sorry things have been so quiet here on the blog.  I often desire to sit down and write.  It’s therapeutic for me!  But life has a way of getting in the way of such things.

Where you can find me most days, on the go!

Like many of my fellow stay at home moms, I often wonder what on earth I am doing. In all the busyness, I question whether or not my life is making a difference for the Kingdom of God.  I ache to know that my life has purpose and that in some small way I might glorify God.

Matthew 3:16-17 says,

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.  And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

What do we know about Jesus at this point in His life that would have stirred the Father to make such a proclamation? Luke 2:51 says that Jesus was “subject” to His parents, which indicates that He obeyed them and submitted to their authority.  Luke follows in verse 52 to say that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men.  He studied His father’s trade… He wasn’t out doing miracles…He wasn’t out teaching, He was living in obedience to God’s commands, living a simple life.

That’s it.

And God the Father said He was well pleased!

The older I get, the more I realize that God isn’t after me to do big things for Him.  He wants me to live my life in a fashion that glorifies Him, through being a helpmate to my husband, a loving parent to my children,  a daughter who honors her parents, a friend who is reliable.  These things please the Lord.  Every school lesson taught, every meal prepared, every long drawn out conversation with a teen in the middle of the night…..these small menial things, the Lord sees, knows, and is well pleased.
