Where is Your Mind?

by frazzledmama on May 4, 2012

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about my mind and thoughts lately.  We live in a time when silence is unheard of.  I realized the other day that if I didn’t have music, an audio book, or a movie going while I did a mindless task, like folding laundry or cleaning the kitchen, I got bored.

Not good.

I really don’t need to have my mind occupied and entertained constantly.  It’s hard to be focused on my children, and a story line.  Sadly, I have been distracting myself from my God-given role as wife and mother.  Not that there is anything wrong with music, audio books, or some movies, however, there is a problem with being distracted from my primary role.

I heard a speaker say once, “The devil likes nothing more than to distract mothers from their children.”  Usually these distractions aren’t wicked things, they are good things, even profitable things.  But they distract us from the primary goal God has given us, raising our children and keeping our homes.

As I washed my hands today, I read this verse….

Ugh!  I have been acting thoughtlessly, and foolishly.  I have not been making the most of every opportunity.  As I thought about my predicament, I remembered something I used to do as I folded laundry.  I used to pray for the person who was going to wear those clothes.  As I washed dishes, I prayed for the person who gave me that wisk, or that hand-held mixer.

Making the most of every opportunity….

I am thankful for God’s mercy and forgiveness.  As well as His patience with me and my foolishness.  I am thankful that He is the Good Shepherd who will set this dumb sheep back on the right path time and time again.

So I ask you, are you distracted?  Are you distracting yourself?  Are you making the most of every opportunity, even the opportunity of folding laundry?

Will you join me to understand what the Lord wants us to do?  I hope you will!
