The garden is planted!

by frazzledmama on September 2, 2008

We finished up the garden and had it filled with dirt by last Friday.  We did add a couple more things since my last post.  Mr. Overkill made some brackets to hold the individual pipes together, which he later installed.

He also made the brackets for me to attach the ends to the culvert pipe, which I had cut out and then attached.

Last evening, the kiddos and I put in the carrots.  After which, I suddenly realized the kiddos needed to take a bath.  Sadly, I would have to finish by myself.  (Side note: if we have any carrots come up, it will be from the Lord.)

Then I put in green bean plants and seeds.

Here, I put in some herbs, thyme, oregano, basil, and stevia.  Also on the end is an eggplant (which I have never grown before) and 1 cucumber plant.

On the far end of the green beans,  I planted some yellow squash.  My plan is to trellis it down from the culvert pipe, and hopefully not kill too much of my grass.

This is a nice photo of the wooden ends, by the way.

This is the second culvert pipe.  It is all sown in seeds, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, onions, and lettuce.  In front of each pipe I have a pot with some tomato plants in them.

I will say that planting in the culvert pipes was 10 times easier than planting in the ground.  No bending, stooping, squatting, whatever!  I am very excited to see how this all goes!
